Unfortunately, you cannot permanently disable these recommendations in Windows 10. If you try to skip the setup, the pop-up will appear again in future. The user can easily close the advert by clicking the second option “Don’t update your browser settings”. This ad appeared only when our devices were set to use Google Chrome and Firefox as the default web browser. In the OOBE screen, there’s a new page titled “Use recommended browser settings” that advises users to restore the Microsoft Edge and pin the browser to the desktop and taskbar.Ĭlicking the “Use Microsoft recommended browser settings” will set Edge as your default browser and pin it to the taskbar/desktop. The “Let’s go” button opens the full-screen window-less OOBE screen.
The ad/recommendation we saw noted: “With a few quick selections, you’ll be on your way to enjoying full Microsoft experience”. The banner states that you can “get even more out of Windows” and it surprisingly launches the OOBE (out of the box experience) screen. This shortcut is admittedly an operating system function that manipulates the apps and not one that’s built into Edge but it’s still strange that Microsoft tells people they’re working on a fullscreen mode for Edge instead of letting them know about this very functional method which has apparently been around for a while now.As you can see in the above screenshot, the advert appears across the top of the Settings app window, just above the settings options. Microsoft’s inability to properly communicate features and functionality to their users is pretty well known, just ask a casual user if they know what Windows Ink is, but keeping this functionality a secret is particularly confounding considering how in-demand it has been for so long. This same keyboard shortcut also works for many other Windows 10 apps made in the Universal Windows Platform app format. Turns out it’s as simple as hitting the Shift, Windows, and Enter keys all at once on the keyboard.
This hidden feature was brought up earlier today in a post on Reddit where a user by the name of Phantasm1337 decided to post about it after having used the fullscreen mode for a while himself but realized that no one else seemed to be aware of it.
They just haven’t added the option to the program or told anyone about it. The thing is though that Microsoft appears to have already added a proper fullscreen mode to Edge in Windows 10.
